Amy is AMAZING. I started visits with her as part of a bariatric surgery program. During the first year we worked together to understand how nutrition affects MY body. Her program is very customized; every body is different and she helped me find what works for me. It’s been two years and I’ve made so much progress. Visits with Amy were so productive and meaningful-I elected not to have surgery & I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life. I know I did much of the hard work, but I don’t think I would have come this far if it wasn’t for Amy. I highly recommend her for your dietician / nutritionist needs.

I was in a place where I got stuck and I explained to Amy before going in that I needed someone to help me to get back on track and help me with accountability. I can't say enough with how helpful Amy was. Showing me little easy tricks to make my life easier by doing simple things with food prep and having things available so I would make right choices. Amy was a great listener, learning from me how the typical day for me is ( which is far from normal being self employed of a 24hr business , add onto it the covid and all the obstacles, both personally and in a business). Thank you Amy! I know I can reach out to you if I need to and I appreciate your help!

Where is the office located?

Nutrition Insights is located at 1149 Lincoln Ave. Lockport, NY 14094.  When you enter the building, please check in with a receptionist.

How do I prepare for the initial appointment

Fill out any necessary paperwork that was emailed at least 48 hours before your appointment.  Call to verify in insurance benefits.  Bring a copy of your insurance cards and a list of medications and supplements.

What can I expect from my appointment?

Initial appointments last 50-90 minutes.  We will review current area of concern and any medical history that is relevant.  We will determine what you hope to achieve in nutrition counseling and set appropriate personalized goals.   Nutrition education, worksheets, goal sheets, meal planning strategies will be provided.  A follow up appointment is then made.

What can I expect at a follow-up appointment?

Follow up appointments are usually 30 minutes to 1 hour.  We will review the information provided at the previous appointment and determine if goals and strategies are working.

Why should I use a registered dietitian?

Registered Dietitians are uniquely trained to understand the metabolic needs of the body and how the food we eat and our lifestyle can affect the different systems of the body.  All Registered Dietitians will have a minimum of a Bachelors Degree and receive at least 1000 hours of training in the various roles a Dietitian may be employed as.

Does my insurance cover nutrition appointments?

Many insurances cover nutrition counseling with no financial responsibility. Each plan is different, and they do change their benefits from year to year. It is best to find out if your insurance covers your visit.

It is your responsibility to verify this benefit with your insurance, and please use the following steps.

Call your insurance company. The member service number should be on the back of your card.

Ask if you have nutrition counseling benefits.

Ask if Amy Beney/Nutrition Insights PLLC is an in-network provider.

The CPT codes that are used are 97802/97803.

If they say you do not have coverage for 97802 or 97803, then ask if you have coverage for 99401, 99402, 99403, and/or 99404. I can also bill using a code s94770

Does my insurance plan have preventative nutrition counseling benefits?

The ICD 10 code for preventative services is Z71.3 and or Z72.4

If you have a diagnosis of diabetes, prediabetes, obesity, BMI >25, kidney (renal) disease, hypertension, high cholesterol, family history of cardiovascular disease, these codes may be covered and there may be no charge to you.

If you have diabetes, try the ICD 10 code E11.9.

Ask if there is any patient responsibility toward the bill (co-pay or deductible)?

Ask for a reference number for the phone call.

If your medical provider is NOT on staff with Dr. Beney, please have them fax a copy of your most recent physical and bloodwork to (855)434-9041.

Insurance may cover the visit with the above-mentioned codes, but there needs to be supportive documentation from your medical provider. That is a sufficient documentation if you have access to your patient portal.

Do I need a referral?

Most insurances do not need a referral.  Medicare does need a referral.

A referral can be faxed to 855-434-9041
